Poolside seating: where to start
Sunbeds, a sofa, or both? How to plan the area by the water so it's comfortable on an ordinary day and when guests arrive.

The area beside the pool is where you spend most of the summer, so it's worth planning it around the way you actually use it.
01 / What you do there most
If you mostly sunbathe and read, start with sunbeds. If you host often, a sofa and coffee table will be the heart of the area. Most homes combine the two: a pair of sunbeds close to the water and a seating corner a little further back.
02 / Sun and shade
Check where the sun is during the hours you spend outside. At least part of the seating should be in the shade, under a pergola, a parasol or a tree, so it's pleasant to sit there at midday too.
A good poolside corner is one you stay in even after you get out of the water.
03 / Distance from the water, and walkways
Leave an easy path around the pool and to the house. A piece placed too close to the water is always wet and blocks the way. A small side table beside each sunbed saves a lot of walking.
04 / Materials for a wet environment
By the pool people sit down in wet swimwear, so it's important to choose fabrics and fillings made for it. Tell us whether your pool is chlorine or salt, and we'll match the materials.
