A garden hosting corner: how to make guests stay
A corner sofa or armchairs, how many seats, and where to put your glass. Four things that turn a garden into a place you'll love to host in.

Good outdoor hosting doesn't depend on the size of the garden. It depends on everyone having a comfortable place to sit, everyone being able to see each other, and somewhere to put down a glass.
01 / Sit in a circle
Conversation flows when people sit facing each other. A corner sofa, or a sofa with two armchairs opposite, creates a closed circle that's pleasant to stay in. A long row of seats facing the view looks beautiful, but is less comfortable for conversation.
02 / One seat more than you need
Count how many people usually sit with you, and add a seat or two. An ottoman or two is a simple solution: on an ordinary day you rest your feet on them, and when guests arrive they become seats.
Guests stay where they're comfortable, and that starts with the seat.
03 / A table within reach
Every seat should have a surface nearby: a coffee table in the middle and side tables at the ends. When nobody has to get up to put down a plate, the evening lasts longer.
04 / Soft light for the evening
Low, warm lighting, like lanterns or small lights among the plants, creates the atmosphere. Strong overhead light suits working, less so an evening with friends.
